Sport

At Concordia, we take a holistic approach to athletics, fostering a growth mindset in our students.

For us, sports are more than just games; they are opportunities to learn valuable life lessons in self-management, teamwork, and resiliency.

We teach our student-athletes that winning is not just about the score but also about developing self-confidence, commitment, sportsmanship, and leadership. Our expansive sports program fields over 60 teams across nine competitive sports each year, allowing students to explore their passions and hone their athletic skills.

Driven by Excellence and Competition

We celebrate community, and athletic competition provides a focal point for school spirit and pride, which brings together students, faculty, staff and families to form the community-based culture that is Concordia.

By the Numbers

Athletic and Activities Conferences

Concordia is a member school of six activities conferences: Asia Pacific Activities Conference (APAC), JV APAC (JPAC), Shanghai International School Activities Conference (SISAC), Association of China and Mongolia International Schools (ACAMIS), China International Schools Sports Association (CISSA), and the Shanghai Swimming League (SSL).

Some of these conferences offer opportunity for travel to countries outside of China, some within China, and others within Shanghai.

Asia Pacific Activities Conference (APAC)

The Asia Pacific Activities Conference (APAC) is an extracurricular athletics and arts program for international schools in the Asia-Pacific area. Since Concordia’s membership with APAC in 2008, we have shared and embodied APAC’s core values of “cultivating personality, sportsmanship, and international cultural awareness.”

APAC Statement of Sportsmanship

The purpose of the Asia Pacific Activities Conference is to provide a venue for athletes from the member schools to compete in an environment that is safe, challenging, professional and educational.  Read more.

Junior NBA Competition School

As a Junior NBA member school, we offer our varsity teams the opportunity to compete with the best High School basketball teams from the local and international schools across Shanghai.

Competition Aquatics Program

From learning-to-swim to competing internationally, the Concordia International School Shanghai Aquatics Program provides our students with the ability to grow and develop at every level of swimming proficiency.

Coaches as Mentors

We know that coaches are regularly found to be some of the most influential people in the lives of young people. Because of that, coaches have responsibility to provide high quality practices that focus on both the sport and the valuable life lessons that are best taught through athletics. Our coaches and instructors are knowledgeable in their sport/activity, prepared, motivating, and able to make adjustments during competition.

SPORTS ACADEMIES

Concordia partners with high quality and vetted sports vendors to support our program, and to provide interested families with year-round sports options. The Academy Coaches work alongside Concordia teacher-coaches within the Concordia Athletics program, and also offer morning, evening, and weekend fee-based Sports Academy options to Concordia and non-Concordia families.
Current Sports Academy Vendors include:

  • Volleyball - Vortex
  • Tennis - Sagrera Villa Sports Academy
  • Soccer - Paris Saint Germain (PSG)
  • Badminton - Champions International Badminton Club
  • Basketball - Prodigy
  • Table Tennis - VNTY Academy

Sports Medicine and Athletic Training

Our certified Athletic Trainer (AT) works closely with teams and coaches on sports injury prevention and education. s and The AT coordinates the best possible care for our student athletes should they experience a sports-related injury while at practice or during competitions.

The AT provides treatment and rehabilitation for all High School student athletes in our campus sports medicine facility.

State of the Art Athletic Facilities

Our students have access to first-rate athletic facilities on campus including four gyms, a FIFA Two-Star soccer pitch, an outdoor track, and tennis courts. We partner with a local facility that provides our students access to two fantastic swimming pools.

Phoenix Boosters

The Phoenix Boosters promote school spirit by supporting our high school athletic teams. During volleyball, basketball and soccer seasons, we run a concession stand on Phoenix Fridays. Hot dogs cooking, popcorn popping, and lots of candy. Just like America! We also open the concession during hosted SISAC and APAC tournaments. All are welcome to join the boosters!

We would like to do more to show school spirit, but it takes a village! If you are interested in getting involved, please contract our PSO President. Join the Fun!
