MSMUN at DIMUN: A Journey of Growth and Diplomacy
Building Our Delegation
The journey to the DIMUN conference began in November 2024 with the registration process. This year, we were able to form a dedicated group of novice delegates, eager to take on the challenge of an international MUN conference. By December 13, students received their country assignments, and despite the break, many dedicated participants took the initiative to begin their research independently.
CISSMUN: A Valuable Learning Experience for MSMUN
In January, all middle school students were invited to assist in a helper’s role at CISSMUN, an invaluable opportunity to engage with high school delegates and gain insight into the Model United Nations experience. Three eighth graders were selected as full delegates, marking the first successful collaboration between MS and HS students. Additionally, our advisors played an active role in supporting the conference by reviewing resolutions for language and formatting compliance. Special thanks to Mr. Paulson and Mr.Hanholt for including the middle school students in this service role, as well as diplomatic one.
CISSMUN officially began on February 14, and our middle school helpers volunteered countless hours of their personal time. Their dedication and willingness to contribute were truly inspiring. The conference’s success heavily relied on the student admin, and our students gained invaluable strategies by observing committees in action.
DIMUN: A Celebration of Excellence March 5-9
Although MUN is centered around collaboration rather than competition, committees present two awards—Best Delegate and Most Improved Delegate. Out of 250 plus students representing 13 schools and 10 committees, five Concordia students received awards along with one honorable mention. With only 20 awards available, achieving a 25% success rate is an outstanding accomplishment. While not all schools left with awards, the experience and skills gained through diplomatic discourse were invaluable.
Looking Back on an Unforgettable Experience
Our time in Beijing was enriched by a cultural tour where we explored ancient Chinese history under a beautiful blue sky and mild temperatures. The extended, value-added DIMUN experience over five days was a first for MSMUN, and our students demonstrated dedication and perseverance throughout the process.
In closing, this verse offers a powerful reminder: “If I have the gift of prophecy and can fathom all mysteries and all knowledge, and if I have a faith that can move mountains, but do not have love, I am nothing.” MUN is not just about gaining knowledge; it is about applying that knowledge through collaboration, diplomacy, and mutual respect. It has truly been our pleasure to guide these students on their journey.
