VEX Robotics Competition
Last Friday, December 6, our Concordia robotics teams participated in an exciting VEX scrimmage at SAS PX. The event provided a fantastic opportunity for our students to practice their skills and refine their strategies in preparation for future competitions. Concordia was represented by one high school team competing in the VEX Robotics Competition (VRC) and five teams in the VEX IQ Challenge.
Our VEX IQ teams performed exceptionally well, demonstrating impressive teamwork, problem-solving, and technical expertise. Among the 16 participating VEX IQ teams, one of our teams earned the Sportsmanship Award, recognizing their outstanding collaboration and positive attitude both on and off the field.
In the VEX Robotics Competition (VRC), our high school team was uniquely represented by a single student, Allan Y., as the other team members were in other events and competitions. Despite the challenge of competing solo, Allan delivered an exceptional performance, securing the top rank and ultimately claiming first place out of 22 competing teams. This remarkable achievement underscores Allan’s resilience, strategic thinking, and technical expertise, making his success even more impressive.
This scrimmage also served as valuable preparation for the upcoming January 17–18 Concordia Robotics Competition, which we will proudly host in 2025 as an official VEX event. The two-day event will feature the VEX Robotics Competition (VRC) on January 17 and a VEX IQ official competition on January 18, providing an exciting platform for students to showcase their skills on a larger stage.
We are incredibly proud of the hard work and achievements of all our teams. These results reflect not only the students' talents but also the collaborative spirit and supportive environment fostered by our robotics program. Congratulations to all who participated!

ACAMIS Table Tennis Champions
The Concordia Varsity Table Tennis team continued its winning ways last weekend at the ACAMIS tournament, hosted this year by the Western Academy Beijing. Eighteen Concordia players were grouped into six three-person teams (3 girls teams and 3 boys teams), and the team tournament unfolded over two days of intense competition. On the girls’ side, the top Concordia team of Fiona Z., Rachel P. and Sieun I. emerged as winners of their round-robin pool on the first day, and on the second day advanced into an eight-team, single elimination bracket. After winning their first match to reach the semi-finals, they lost a close match to a strong team, but rebounded in the next match to secure a third-place trophy.
On the boys’ side, the team of Chris C., Sean J. and Connor J. advanced from the pool play into a sixteen-team bracket on day two, and survived three very close matches to reach the final against Nansha College Preparatory Academy. In the final, Chris and Sean won straight-set victories before Sean and Connor paired up for a doubles win that sealed the victory and the ACAMIS Championship! It was the first team win at ACAMIS in Concordia history, and a great day for the Phoenix players, coaches and fans. This is no small feat, considering there was a total of 28 teams participating!
The whole team is now gearing up for final exams and a much needed rest over the Christmas holiday, and then we’re back in action in early January as we host the Phoenix Classic on January 10 and 11. We hope that parents, students, teachers and friends can come out to watch and cheer for the Phoenix.

ACAMIS Swimming
A Successful Journey of Our Young Phoenix Swimmers at the ACAMIS Swim Championship
We are proud to celebrate the outstanding performance of our Concordia swimmers at the ACAMIS Senior Swim Championship in Hangzhou. Last Thursday, December 5th, 16 of our swimmers, aged 13 and above, made their debut in this prestigious event, marking an important milestone for our school.
The ACAMIS Championship is renowned for providing a platform for student-athletes from international schools to showcase their talents. This year, the event brought together swimmers from 30 international schools across cities such as Beijing, Shanghai, Hong Kong, Chengdu, Qingdao, Guangzhou, and Dalian.
Over three days of intense competition, these gifted young athletes displayed remarkable swimming prowess, with some achieving Olympic-qualifying times in the final heats. Our Concordia swimmers rose to the occasion, with several advancing to the finals. Notably, 8th grader Bella W. reached the finals in both the 50m and 100m breaststroke, finishing an impressive fourth in both events. Similarly, 9th grader Brandon Z. secured fifth place in the 100m breaststroke final.
In addition to individual accomplishments, our boys’ 13-14 relay team demonstrated their teamwork and determination, earning fifth place in the medley relay and fourth in the freestyle relay. Let’s extend our heartfelt congratulations to our young Phoenix Swimmers for their hard work and success.

When the Concordia swim team proudly chanted their team cheer, the entire venue erupted in applause and cheers, a testament to the respect and camaraderie from our fellow competitors.
We are incredibly proud of the sportsmanship, determination, and camaraderie shown by our young swimmers. They have truly embodied the spirit of Concordia.
