Message from Director of Student Activities and Sport
Welcome APAC Orchestra!
The Concordia community is so excited to welcome you to Shanghai, and especially back to our school. We are also excited to welcome our guest conductor, Mr. Arjan Tien. Arjan is professor of conducting at the Conservatoire of Amsterdam and at the Maastricht Conservatoire, has served as the principal conductor of the Atheneaum Chamber Orchestra at the Royal Conservatoire in The Hague and is currently principal conductor and artistic director of the Marine Band of the Royal Netherlands Navy and VU Orchestra in Amsterdam. Tien studied violin and viola at the Utrecht Conservatory, Netherlands and studied conducting in the UK, France and Switzerland.
Another highlight of this event will be the performance on Thursday evening from the Shanghai Symphony Orchestra String Quintet. We have missed the camaraderi and fun that our APAC friends bring to our campus. Take advantage of this opportunity to get to know some new people and develop your passion for orchestra together.
A number of people have assisted in making this event happen. I would like to personally thank them for their time and energy. Thank you to our Coordinator of Visual and Performing Arts, Mr. Darrell Roddick, and our Orchestra Director, Ms. Mia Bjorkman, for the meticulous planning to make this a memorable event. Thank you to our Operations team for helping with setups, our marketing team, our admin support team in the Activities and Sport Department who have done the legwork for the event, and our greater school community for all of the work they have done to make this event possible.
We hope to help make your visit in Shanghai a pleasant one.
If there is anything you need, please let us know.
Matthew Macinnes
Director of Activities and Sport
