Teacher Shares Shining Star Passion
By Sra. Silvina Rubiano, Spanish teacher
My first experience with Shining Star was when I had the chance to help organize and chaperone a team of High School Concordia students on a service trip to one of the communities Shining Stars supports. It was an eye-opening experience, meeting some of the left-behind children. We had the opportunity to create a supportive and engaging environment where participants could enhance their English language skills. Through a variety of interactive art and craft activities and games, we not only helped them practice communication but also shared meaningful messages of encouragement, resilience, and hope.

Over the years, I’ve continued to work with Shining Star, organizing a couple fundraising projects to help the students they support. While I often feel like my contributions are small, I’ve seen firsthand how even the smallest actions can have a big impact.

As both parent and educator, it is vital to nurture a sense of service and compassion in our children. We’re all connected in this world, and by acknowledging our own blessings, we can guide our children to utilize their talents to positively impact others' lives. Participating in service activities not only benefits those in need but also brings fulfillment, gratitude, and joy to our own lives.
