Updates on Policies and Procedures for the High School
As we enter the 2025-26 school year, the high school is focusing on positive shifts to support student learning and growth. These policy shifts will be shared in the High School Handbook and have been communicated to students, teachers, and parents through various means of communication. Please feel free to reach out to the High School Office or the High School Administration for further clarificaiton.
I have shared a summary of the updates below.
Assessment (Re-Takes and Make-ups): Those students who miss an assessment or are re-taking an assessment are expected to make them up in a timely manner. Any student earning less than an 80% on an assessment, and has complete 80% of the formatives, can request to retake the assessment to earn up to 80%. This should be completed in a timely manner and managed by the teacher. Make-up assessments should be scheduled no later than the next class period for explained absences, and day of for unexplained absences where possible. Teachers may require students to complete formative work as part of the make-up process as part of their assessment process as all formative work provides feedback and informs instruction. Students who show a pattern of not completing formative work may be asked to attend class time outside of school to catch up with the material. Projects are not eligible for retakes as the teacher has provided feedback along the way and they are due the assigned date.
Attendance: Students must attend 85% of the course to receive credit. At 10% and 15% students and parents will receive emails and meetings will be held to address attendance issues. Please reinforce that all absences count towards this 15% amount, which is about 7 days per semester. Absences are to be explained if the student wishes to receive a waiver for further absences during the semester.
Cell Phone Policy: Concordia will be a no phones campus from the time students enter campus, until 3:30 pm. Cell phones must be powered off or silenced and headphones are not to be used unless the student has an approved accommodation during the school day. There are tech lockers for voluntary storage on floors 2 and 4. Teachers may collect phones as part of their classroom management plan during class. If a student is using a phone, and not in compliance with the policy, the teacher may collect it and deliver it to the office, send a student to the office for resolution, or request someone from the office to come to their room. The office may hold the device until the end of the day and return it, or require a parent to collect it from school is this is a repeated incident.
HS Uniform Policy: The current options online are available for all students to wear. Students may wear Concordia items, tops, with approved Marketing branding Monday to Thursday. On Fridays, students may wear any Concordia branded items, tournament wear, or other items that are from Concordia events, but not other schools. For example, an APAC or tournament shirt from an IS Beijing tournament, but not a school shirt from IS Beijing.
*Concordia flannel casual pants may be worn on Fridays. They are blue and yellow. Flannel casual pants from other schools may not be worn.
*Shoes - students must wear close toed shoes, no crocs, flip flops, slides, or sandals. Jeans shorts and running shorts are not permitted. All shorts should be mid-thigh in length.
Food Delivery Policy: Concordia will cease to allow students to order any food from off site during school hours. Students will use the school cafeteria for food options. They will be required to have their student ID cards with money loaded on it or purchase. Students who do not have their cards, will be given up to 3 days to resolve this, at which point an ID card will be ordered for them and charged to their account. A new ID card is 50 rmb and can be ordered for purchase at the Technology Center.
