Counseling Support

Concordia counselors are available to work with the specific developmental needs of our students in all four school divisions, through a counseling program that fosters self-respect and self-esteem as well as respect for others within and outside of our diverse community. We view all students as unique individuals, and our counselors operate from a position of respect for the student and their unique social and emotional needs. Confidentiality is a priority in all counseling sessions.

Early Childhood Education Counseling

Concordia’s Early Childhood counseling program supports the emotional, social, physical, and intellectual growth of each student so that he/she may reach his/her full potential. Our Early Childhood counseling program provides social-emotional education, prevention, and intervention services.

The first impressions of school can influence a child for many years ahead. Occasionally children may need assistance with the developmental challenges of self-regulation, making friends, separating from parents, and learning appropriate school expectations. Some children may also encounter difficulties that can impact their ability to learn, such as divorce or separation from family, moving, or loss of a loved one.

At Concordia, we believe that parents and other primary caregivers play an important role in the growth and development of each child. Not only do we support each child, we support parents and families through their parenting journey. Healthy, happy families = healthy, happy learners!

Elementary School Counseling

The elementary years are a time when students begin to develop their academic self-concept and their feelings of competence and confidence. They are beginning to develop decision-making, communication and life skills, as well as character values. It is also a time when students develop and acquire attitudes toward school, self, peers, social groups and family.

Our Elementary School counseling program provides education, prevention and intervention services, which are integrated into all aspects of the student’s lives. Early identification and intervention of children’s academic and personal/social needs is essential in removing barriers to learning and in promoting academic achievement. The knowledge, attitudes and skills that students acquire in the areas of academic, career and personal/social development during these elementary years serve as the foundation for future success.

Middle School Counseling

The Middle School counseling team helps adolescent students establish academic routines and develop social/emotional wellness in both individual and group settings. Our counselors also work with parents when referrals for academic testing or private counseling are necessary. Counselors support students in transition to the school or within the school and train the Concordia Student Ambassadors who welcome and care for new students.

Concordia also has a Care and Concern team which is comprised of a group of counselors and teachers who monitor the academic and social adjustments of our students. Each student is received with honor and respect. Confidentiality is a priority in all counseling sessions.

High School Counseling

Each Concordia High School counselor serves as an advocate in assisting students with academic, personal, and social needs. Counselors work closely with each student in a variety of school-wide, classroom, small-group, and individual meetings. In addition, the same counselor provides guidance in college and career planning.

High school counselors have designed a wellbeing and happiness engineering (WHE) program that uses student feedback to understand the students’ high school experience. This year-long, data-driven program helps remove roadblocks to student growth, and more effectively connect students to the amazing developmental opportunities available at Concordia.
