At Concordia, music forms an integral part of our curriculum, as we know that musical training benefits our students academically, socially, and emotionally. Students in Elementary School are provided a good musical foundation through Orff and Kodaly training and have regular musical showcases for the public. In grade 5, students choose to join either choir, band, or strings, and have regular classes as part of their curriculum throughout middle school. They perform multiple times each year, and our concerts are truly a cornerstone of the Concordia community. By the time they reach 8th grade, our students are independent musicians who can compete on the world stage. In the High school, opportunities expand even more, with external festivals like APAC and AMIS creating not only opportunities for musical growth, but also memories that last a lifetime. Students in high school audition for four choirs: Concordia Singers, Bel Canto (women’s choir), Collegium (men’s choir), and Chamber Singers.

The visual arts program at Concordia engages students in sustained inquiry through the development of technical skill, process, and problem solving. Working within historical and cultural contexts, students learn to observe closely, reflect critically, and revise their thinking as they investigate ideas and materials. Through disciplined practice, students develop craft, persist through challenges, and synthesize their thinking into meaningful visual work. Studio experiences emphasize experimentation, reflection, and iteration, culminating in the creation and presentation of work that communicates ideas with clarity and depth. In addition, our Applied Learning, students are able to engage in real-world applications within the design field such as graphic design and fashion design. Along with these experiences, students in Middle and High School have the opportunity to exhibit their artwork in an annual off-campus exhibition.

Drama program at Concordia prioritizes authentic performance and production opportunities, emphasizing the transformational power of risk-taking and collaboration to develop student’s imaginations as well as their foundational, transferable, theatrical and performance skills. In elementary school students have the opportunity to participate in an ECA full stage production as well as developmental ECAs in dance and drama. In Middle school, every student is enrolled in a semester of drama every year in middle and in high school students can choose from a range of course offerings. Our drama classes are designed to be project and production-based providing students with hands-on, real-world transferable theatrical opportunities to build skills in acting, design, devising, directing, dramaturgy, and analysis. Students in drama learn to be creative and critical thinkers, collaborative team members, leaders, and responsible theatre artists. Additionally, middle school students can audition for two full productions: musical and play, and high school students can audition for our high school musical and play, APAC, ACAMIS, and ISTA festivals, and members of our theatre honor society, the International Thespian Society (ITS) supporting theatre across the school.
