More Gold in International Synthetic Biology Competition!
We're thrilled to celebrate the outstanding achievement of our synthetic biology students at the Global Open Genetic Engineering Competition (GOGEC), where they competed against university research teams from around the world. GOGEC brings together the world's brightest minds in synthetic biology to showcase innovative research projects and foster collaboration in this rapidly advancing field.

Gold Medal Success Against University Competition
Our Concordia Synthetic Biology team was one of only three high school teams competing alongside over 25 universities at GOGEC. Despite being among the youngest competitors, our students secured a gold medal and achieved runner-up status in the Best Experimental Project category – an incredible accomplishment that speaks to the caliber of their research and our High School Applied Learning Program.

Congratulations to our winning team members:
Claire Jeong
Jerry Liang
Zoe Gong
Hanwon Kim
Sarah Pan
Hana van Rossum

These dedicated students presented their cutting-edge synthetic biology research to a global audience, demonstrating the exceptional quality of scientific education and mentorship at our school.
Building on Previous Success
This latest achievement adds to our biotechnology program's impressive track record. Last fall, our SynBio research students also claimed gold at the annual iGEM conference, along with recognition for the best environmental project. This consistent success at international competitions reflects the dedication of both our students and staff, while showcasing the strength of Concordia's Applied Learning and science programs.
