An Update from our Counseling Team

As you may be aware, the high school counseling model for this school year has shifted to counselors working with their own cohorts of students from grade 9-12. With this, aspects of the counseling program have been altered the counselors will continue to make improvements to the counseling program that meet the needs of our students.
In the first semester, counselors met with each of their students individually. Grade 9 individual meetings focused on counselors and their students getting to know each other on a personal level, Grade 10 meetings were to reflect on finishing the first year of high school and goals for their second year, Grade 11 meetings have been used to start working with students on their individual plans and goals for university, and Grade 12 meetings have been ongoing to support students as their work on their college applications.

Counselors have also been meeting with their grade level cohorts of students in counseling seminars to cover various topics from time management to depression to how to plan their summers.
In addition to this student focused programming, counselors have also been providing parent programming through Counseling Coffees, Parenting Sessions, and College Counseling Workshops, with more to come in the second semester.
Finally, counselors have also been engaging in professional development opportunities by attending a range of college counseling events and conferences. This coming semester, counselors will be visiting universities in Korea, attending International Association for College Admissions Counseling conferences, Safeguarding trainings, and the International School Counselor Association Conference.
All four counselors attended a two day training with MaiaLearning in Beijing this past weekend. As Concordia has transitioned from Cialfo to MaiaLearning as our college and career platform, this training provided counselors with more knowledge about all the platform has to offer and we are excited to continue to show these features to students and parents.
As always, counselors are here to support families, so please do not hesitate to reach out to your child’s counselor at any time.
