ACAMIS Theater Festival - Play in a Day Macau
This past weekend, Mr. Danny and Mrs. Erny took seven High School theater students to Macau to participate in the ACAMIS Theater Festival Play in a Day hosted at The International School of Macau. The experience was an immersive three day journey that challenged students to collaborate, create, and perform under real world theatrical pressure.
Students were randomly placed into two mixed school teams and assigned professional style roles including playwrights, directors, artistic technician, booth technician, and actors. On Thursday evening at 7 pm, the playwrights received a surprise prompt and immediately began writing an original script, working through the night and into the next day. By Saturday morning, completed scripts were handed off to the rest of the team.
From that point, the clock was on. Directors, technicians, and actors had until 7 pm Saturday evening to fully rehearse, stage, design, and produce the brand-new work. In less than one day, each team transformed words on a page into a complete theatrical production, culminating in a friendly competition between the two groups, with one team leaving the festival victorious.
Overall, the Play in a Day format proved to be a truly unique and transformative experience for our students. Working under intense time constraints and within clearly defined roles pushed them to discover new strengths, confront challenges, and grow in confidence as artists and collaborators. Through this process, students gained a deeper understanding of themselves, their creative voices, and the importance of trust and teamwork in theater, making this weekend in Macau a meaningful and lasting learning experience.

SISAC Basketball tournaments
Varsity and JV Girls and Boys Basketball teams wrapped up their local league play last weekend, with SISAC tournaments taking place across the region. The Varsity Boys competed in Pudong, the Varsity Girls in Puxi, JV Girls traveled to Suzhou, and JV Boys also represented Concordia in Puxi.
Across all four teams, this season has been marked by steady growth, resilience, and development: not only in basketball skills, but in teamwork, leadership, and sportsmanship. Our student-athletes have embraced the challenges of competition, supported one another through highs and lows, and represented Concordia with pride in every gym they entered.
As we look ahead, excitement is building for our end-of-season trips, with Varsity teams traveling to Beijing and Vietnam for APAC and JV traveling to ISB, Beijing for JPAC next week. These experiences extend learning well beyond the court, reinforcing our department’s commitment to education-based athletics that develop confident, connected, and compassionate young people.
We are proud of the dedication shown by our athletes and coaches throughout the season and look forward to seeing our teams continue to grow: competing with passion, learning through experience, and building meaningful connections along the way. Congrats to the Girls Basketball team on going unbeaten in the SISAC Plate tournament!
