Dear Potential Substitute Teacher for Concordia International School Shanghai:

We want to thank you for your willingness to support the student learning in our classrooms on days when the regular teacher is not able to be present.  As part of an internal review of our student safety protocols, we will be asking all employees-- both permanent and temporary, contracted staff, and volunteers who may have one-to-one interactions with students to complete both a background check and Child Safeguarding Training.

1. Substitute Application: Please complete and return Substitute Application Form to sub@concordiashanghai.org or drop it off at the HR Office.  Once we have your signed authorization, we will work with Protect My Ministry to obtain the report from your home country of record.  Please be sure to include an address from your home country (even if it is not a current residence) as it helps to identify you.  Also, we require the following documents as part of your application:

  1. Resume (CV)

  2. Passport and visa copy

  3. Degree copies

  4. Teaching license copy (if available)

2. Background Check: In the US, your records will be checked against the National Criminal Database, the National Sex Offender Registry, and your Social Security number will be verified along with an address history.  If warranted, a criminal search by state and county may also be requested.  Checks in other countries provide similar information.  PRC nationals must provide a Non-Criminal Record from the relevant PSB.

3. Child Safeguarding Training:

  1. You will receive an email with a link to the Child Safeguarding training from the TeachUp site. Please follow the instructions to set up your account and access the training module. This training is required for all employees, substitutes, and volunteers.

  2. The required course is Child Safeguarding for International Schools (China) Level 2. The training is provided in both English and Chinese. You can choose the language based on our preference.

  3. Once you have completed the training, please send your certificate to sub@concordiashanghai.org.

  4. This training must be completed prior to having contact with students.

The above steps must be completed prior to subbing at Concordia.

If you have any questions about this process, please feel free to contact us through sub@concordiashanghai.org

Blessings,

Human Resources Department
