MS Weekly Updates and Mini-Articles for June 8 to 12
Next week is the final week of the school year. Students will be off timetable for the week. Your child’s Grade Level Leader should have shared the schedule for the week by email with you. If you did not receive the email, please contact your child’s Grade Level Leader or the MS Office to get a copy of the schedule.
Report cards will be available at 4:00 p.m. on Thursday, June 11. You can find the report card in your child’s PowerSchool account. If you need any assistance locating it, please contact the MS Office at: ms.office@concordiashanghai.org or 5899 0380 extension 4000.
Virtues of the Month
We hope that you have had time to talk with your child about the Virtues of the Month (Fruit of the Spirit) this year. We will continue to highlight these qualities next year and hope to continue building a stronger community with shared qualities.
A Note from 8th Grade ELA
By Ms. Leung, English Language Arts Curriculum Lead, Grade 8 ELA Teacher
This year, our 8th graders finished strong.
For their end-of-year capstone, students read dystopian novels in small book clubs — titles like The Hunger Games, The Giver, Scythe, Divergent, and The Maze Runner — and spent weeks digging into what their book is really saying about power, control, and what we're willing to give up for safety.
For their final project, each student chose how to show their thinking. Some made graphic novels. Some wrote op-eds connecting their book to something happening in the world right now. Others recorded podcasts, created blackout poetry, built visual collages, or designed games set in their novel's world. Every project, no matter the format, required real evidence from the text and a real argument.

Scale It Up!
By Ms. Sally Kim, Grade 6 Math Teacher
In grade six Math, students worked on a project where they enlarged an ordinary item by applying their knowledge of proportional relationships. Some of them decided to challenge themselves and created gigantic versions of laptops, Starbucks cups to highlighters. Students had a great time presenting their measurements to learning outcomes in class this week!

StuCo Final Messages for the Year
Welcome, or welcome back to the StuCo articles! I’m Sophia L., reporting on behalf of the StuCo members who have some exciting news for you!
< Reminders >
Last Week of School: The last week of school will be filled with fun before we head off to summer break. Each grade level will have their own field trips, and everyone will be staying in their advisories. We are excited to be announcing the winner of the ultimate Grade Level Point Winner Party planned by the Vice President Jason C..
Field Day: Next week, on June 5th, all students and advisories will be participating in the Field Day games, which will be another chance to win grade-level points. We hope that these games will be exciting and a bonding experience before we separate for another summer break.
Summer Break: June 12th will be the last day we are at school and will be half a day before we leave for summer break. On that day, we will be signing each other’s yearbooks before we leave for summer break.

< Election Results >
After a competitive election, StuCo is happy to announce that the Officer Election Results for the 2026-2027 school year are out! Next year, our StuCo President will be Jason C., current 7th grader, who will bring back the fun and prioritize the Middle School Community for next year. “I’ll try my best to improve middle school.” He says. Our StuCo Vice President will be Dylan W., current 6th grader, who promises that everyone will be heard. Our StuCo Treasurer will be Stanley T., who will be responsible for making sure that next year everyone’s suggestions will be implemented. “It is my upmost pleasure to be elected MS Student Council Treasurer. Seeing all the encouragement and support to all candidates has really been heartwarming. Next year, I will be planning to help your voice by implementing monthly suggestion surveys and clear and concise emails. Hope this school year ends with a banger and happy summer break!” Stanley said. Next year, our StuCo secretary will be Cynthia K., currently in 7th Grader. Cynthia will make sure all messages are well communicated, and every assembly will contain all the information that we need. She says: “Thanks to all the students for supporting us, and we promise to listen to your voices.”

< Last note >
After another wonderful year of bonding with our friends, learning new information, and being together, we must say goodbye to some of our friends, who are leaving, although we must remember that they will always be part of the Concordia Community, and we wish them well as they move onto the next chapter. Summer break is coming, and we must admit that even though we made some mistakes, we had a wonderful year. After an assembly we would be off and out of school, starting our next chapter.
And with that, the 2025-2026 school year comes to an end.
Have a nice summer!
Top Chef - End of Year 2025 – 2026
By Mr. Denis Smith, ELD Curriculum Lead and Top Chef Teacher
For our final Top Chef session, students stepped beyond the kitchen and into the role of professional chefs, presenting their learning to their peers.
Working in teams, students shared photographs, recipes, and reflections from dishes they had prepared throughout the program. Presentation Skills and Public Speaking are vital to our program! Students explained the cooking techniques they used, the importance of kitchen health and safety, and how collaboration helped them achieve success.
A key focus of the presentations was reflection. Students identified what went well, what challenges they encountered, and what they would improve next time. This demonstrated not only their growing culinary knowledge but also their ability to think critically about their own learning.
While Top Chef is centered around food, it also develops important transferable skills. The final presentations highlighted students' growth in communication, collaboration, confidence, and the application of practical skills in real-world contexts.
Congratulations to all of our Top Chefs for a fantastic program!
