EC/ES Season 1 ECA Showcase
WMC Math Competition
On Saturday 24th October, we had the privilege of welcoming schools from across Shanghai to Concordia for the World Mathematics Championships. The WMC, formerly SEAMC, is a global mathematics competition with regional events all over the world. The full-day competition required students to compete in teams and individually in rigorous rounds testing their teamwork, adaptability, strategy, and mathematical skillset. Highlights included a high-stakes Crypto round where mixed school teams worked together to decrypt secret messages, solve the problem, then re-encrypt their answers.
Our students delivered and outstanding performance, working hard in every round to secure top results as well as socialising and welcoming students from different schools. The results showed seven gold medals from Concordia students, ten silver medals, and eight bronze medals. Eight of our students also qualified for the prestigious world finals, which takes place at Imperial College London. Other students were super close to qualifying, and we’re really proud of everyone who took part.
Furthermore, we had eight grade 8 students working on a different question set throughout the day to secure a place in the Junior World Finals, taking place at the University of Melbourne in December. Six of our eight students successfully qualified for this amazing opportunity.
We are proud of all participants, from Concordia and other schools. We hope everyone had a fantastic day and we’re excited for next year’s event.
