Concordia's badminton team made a powerful statement at this year's APAC Badminton Tournament hosted by Western Academy of Beijing (WAB) from April 9-13. Our 16 varsity players demonstrated exceptional skill, discipline, and sportsmanship throughout the competition.
From the outset, our student-athletes maintained impressive focus, prioritizing healthy eating, adequate rest, and avoiding distractions despite the excitement of competing against other schools. This disciplined approach paid dividends as the tournament progressed.
During the round-robin phase, Concordia players executed their game plans with precision while effectively managing the emotional highs and lows of competition. Their consistent performance built momentum with each round, culminating in a commanding lead. By the end of round-robin play, Concordia stood an impressive 59 points ahead of second-place UNIS, with our girls' team accumulating 84.5 points and our boys securing 86 points.
As the tournament advanced to the playoffs, our singles and doubles teams faced heightened pressure as the recognized team to beat. Despite this challenge, they competed with determination and grace. Our players consistently demonstrated exemplary sportsmanship in their interactions with opponents and coaches alike.
In the final standings, our team secured impressive results across multiple categories: Boys Singles 1 - Winston W. (1st place), Girls Singles 1- Xiang-Xiang L. (2nd place), Boys Singles 2 - George K. (3rd place), Girls Singles 2 - Lily S.(3rd place), Girls Doubles 1 - Elsie F. and Ingrid L. (1st place) and Boys Doubles 1 - Evan C. and Lucas S. (2nd place).
The team's ability to maintain a champion mindset paid off magnificently, with both girls’ and boys’ teams bringing home championship trophies for the second time in Concordia history. Congratulations to our badminton athletes for representing Concordia with excellence both on and off the court!
