Fine Arts: Choir

Musical foundations learned in Elementary School continue to be enhanced and reinforced during the Middle School years. At Concordia, students in Grades 5-8 are required to enroll in band, choir, or strings. Here, they expand their knowledge of musical notation, rhythmic/melodic reading, and elements of performance in their ensembles. Students will continue to develop and focus their individual music skills while coming together to create enriching music performances throughout the school year.

Choir 5

This year-round choir is for all boys & girls in 5th grade.Singers are guided through the basic elements of choral singing such as proper stance, breath support, vowel formation, balance, blend, diction, projection, part-singing, and good concert etiquette.The 5thgraders are taught beginning sight-reading, rhythm reading, and the C-major scale.The students will sing mostly 2-part music of varied styles.All choir members will sing on 3 concerts throughout the school year: December, March and May.

Choir 6

This year-round choir is for all boys & girls in 6th grade.Singers are guided through the basic elements of choral singing such as proper stance, breath support, vowel formation, balance, blend, diction, projection, part-singing, and good concert etiquette.The 6thgraders are taught beginning/intermediate sight-reading, rhythm reading, and the C-major scale.The students will sing two or three-part music of varied styles.All choir members will sing on 3 concerts throughout the school year: December, March and May.

7/8 Girls' Choir

This year-round choir is for girls in 7th & 8th grade.Singers are guided through choral singing elements including posture, breath support, vowel formation, balance, blend, diction, projection, independent part-singing, and good concert etiquette. Intermediate sight-reading, rhythm reading, and scale work are taught. Varied styles of literature are performed, with the number of voice parts determined by enrollment. All singers perform on 3 concerts throughout the school year: December, March and May.(7th& 8th grade girls are also able to audition for Treble Choir).

7/8 Boys' Choir

This year-round choir is for boys in 7th & 8th grade. Singers are guided through choral singing elements including posture, breath support, vowel formation, balance, blend, diction, projection, independent part-singing, and good concert etiquette. Intermediate sight-reading, rhythm reading, and scale work are taught.Varied styles of literature are performed, with the number of voice parts determined by enrollment.All singers perform on 3 concerts throughout the school year:December, March and May. (7th & 8th grade boys with unchanged voices are also able to audition for Treble Choir).

Treble Choir

This year-round choir is an auditioned group for boys and girls (with unchanged voices) in 7th & 8th grade. Singers are guided through advanced choral singing elements including posture, breath support, vowel formation, balance, blend, diction, projection, independent part-singing, and good concert etiquette. Intermediate/advanced sight-reading, rhythm reading, and scale work are taught. Varied styles of literature are performed; most literature is performed in three or four voice parts.

Concerts

All singers perform in 4 concerts throughout the school year: October, December, March, and May, with extra performance opportunities available at Concordia and in the community. Many students choose to take part in the AMIS Middle School Honor Choir Festivals. Auditions are held in the spring for the upcoming year. New students to Concordia must also audition with the choir director in the fall to be placed in this ensemble.
