G5 Virtual Lunchroom Allows Students to Socialize

During the first month of Distance Learning, we conducted two wellness surveys to check in on our students. Many students expressed that they missed their friends. Even though they were in class on zoom together, it wasn't the same. Students had little to no time to just hang out with their friends. During the school day, lunch is an ideal time to catch up with friends. The Virtual Lunchroom is a way for students to hang out and reconnect.

The Virtual Lunchroom is hosted for fifth graders once a week. All students in grade 5 receive an invitation to join. Ms. Johnson opens her zoom room and creates breakout rooms that serve as lunch tables. Students bring their lunch, stories, and sometimes cool dance moves. It's no surprise that the Virtual Lunchroom has become a popular destination during lunch time. Students can join between 11:00-11:30am on designated days. No assignments, no pressure, just a relaxed environment to hang out in before afternoon classes.

If you have a fifth-grade student, encourage them to join us next week. It's virtually the best place to be during lunchtime.
