The Wonders of the Moon

Over the past few weeks, the First Grade students have been studying ‘Patterns in the Sky’ for Science. Our study of the moon coincided with the Mid-Autumn Festival (also known as the Moon Festival) in China. The students learned that the part of the moon you see is called a moon phase. You see the same phases in the same order every month. Talking about the phases of the moon, inspired a fun challenge with Oreo Cookies.

The students in Grade 1 Hedstrom also read a book called ‘Papa, Please Get the Moon for Me’ By Eric Carle which inspired this artwork. Other classes prepared artwork relating to the Moon and drew constellations.
