Learning from the Past

In Social Studies, Grade One students are learning about Life in the Past. They are learning about how things change over time and how people can have deep connections to their past.

To begin to understand the changes over time, students have made timelines of their own lives, starting when they were very little and marking a few important landmark events in their lives so far. Teachers are helping the students to understand that there is a connection to the past event in their lives.

Guest speakers have also been invited to share, via Zoom, something important from their past and the connection that they have to this event or item. Guests have shared toys telephones that they used long ago, a key that is over 90 years old, photographs, childhood storybooks, and more. Students are learning to talk about things in the past and the role the past plays in the present.
