EC: Year of the Ox Wishes from Dr. Gerdes

Dear EC Families,

I love holidays, family, and friends!

Just a little over a month ago we celebrated the special holidays of Christmas and the New Year of 2021. It was a different type of holiday for many, but I am sure opportunities to connect with those we love and care about were present. I take advantage of any opportunity to celebrate a holiday with family and friends!

This week, we recognize and celebrate a special holiday – the Spring Festival, or Chinese New Year. Happy Year of the Ox!

I want to take the opportunity to recognize and share appreciation for the many people at Concordia who hold this special holiday near and dear to their hearts. I’m thankful for colleagues (Mandarin Teachers, Teaching Assistants, Office Support Staff, and many more) who help make Concordia the amazing place it is. I’m thankful for students who live in such a wonderful and diverse learning environment. I’m thankful for parents who choose Concordia for their child’s school while in Shanghai.

A favorite verse of mine that I have known since a child shares to “give thanks in all circumstances”. Again, I am truly grateful for our colleagues, students, and families who call Shanghai “home”.

I’ve shared before that Concordia is a Latin word which means “harmony”. I’m thankful that we have the opportunity to come together and recognize and celebrate the Chinese New Year – The Year of the Ox!

May your festivities be bright, cheerful, safe, and special for you and your family!

Wishing you the best of blessings,

Dr. Gerdes
