As we move through the first quarter of the school year, our High School Physical Education program has been full of energy, engagement, and growth. Students across grade levels are not only building skills but also discovering how movement connects to confidence, safety, and personal well-being.

In Grade 9, students have been diving into our Swim and Water Safety unit, which focuses on lifesaving skills, safe water entries, and awareness around rescue situations. We’ve emphasized both technical execution and a deeper understanding of why each skill matters—how calm decision-making and correct technique can save a life. Whether practicing reaching assists, surface dives, or flotation techniques, students are beginning to recognize the impact of these actions and the shared responsibility we all have around water. For many, this unit has been both a physical and personal breakthrough as they develop greater confidence, safety awareness, and respect for aquatic environments.

Meanwhile, our Grade 10 students have taken on the challenge of our Weight Lifting and Resistance Training unit, part of the Performance Fitness pathway. In the formative stage, the emphasis is on learning and refining foundational movements while understanding that challenge is something to celebrate—not fear. Students are developing proper lifting form, exploring how muscles work together, and learning how to build safe, effective training programs tailored to their goals. Each session encourages ownership, reflection, and the realization that strength is not just physical—it’s mental and emotional too.

Across both units, we’re proud of how our students are engaging with purpose, demonstrating maturity, and building habits that will serve them well beyond the gym and pool.
