Moving to Shanghai
Bring From Home

Suggested items you can either carry with you or place in your air shipment:

  • Prescription Medication: Medicine is still one of the biggest challenges for Westerners. If you have prescription medication, you might want to bring a six-month supply for peace of mind.
  • OTC Medication: Tylenol, Motrin, Advil, Aleve, cold and cough decongestion medications and antihistamines may be typical over-the-counter drugs in the US, but they are difficult to come by here in China. Having a supply on hand when the flu season hits is highly recommended. This advice is for both adult and children medications.
  • Mosquito/Bug spray, sunscreen, anti-itch cream (Benadryl, etc) – the mosquitoes tend to come with the heavy rains and in the summer.
  • If you have your favorite or particular brands of products, it is a good idea to bring them over (eg. shampoo, toothpaste, deodorant, hemorrhoid cream, Pepto-Bismol, etc)
  • While you can find first-aid material here, it is good to bring them with you and have on hand right away – eg. bandages, band-aids, cut cleaners, and products Neosporin, Desitin and other antiseptic ointments.
