Since its inception in 1998, Concordia’s focus on excellence and cutting edge ideas has produced measurable results.

  • Concordia founded the Community Center Shanghai as the Concordia Family Center in 1998. From a solid foundation, the Community Center has become an important support structure for families all over Shanghai.
  • Concordia was one of the founding schools in 2000 of CISSA, the China International Schools Sports Association, a multi-inclusive sports organization that emphasizes involvement for all and fosters individual and team excellence in a co-operative, friendly, and enjoyable environment for all participating middle school athletes.
  • Concordia was one of the first six schools forming ACAMIS – Association of China and Mongolia International School in 2002. Today ACAMIS is an organization of 50+ schools in Greater China and Mongolia raising the level of high school competitive sports and Fine Arts activities across China.
  • In 2005, Concordia was the founding school of SISAC, Shanghai International School Activities Conference, with a mission to provide season-based sports competition and activity events in a well-chaperoned environment for the students of international schools in the greater Shanghai area.
  • Concordia faculty co-founders of the Learning 2.0 Conference originating team and the school is a conference host.
  • Concordia is one of the co-founders of the Shanghai Student Film Festival (SSFF).
  • Concordia founded the only National History Day in Asia in 2009.
  • Three Concordia High School students founded the Yunnan Education Project after going on their annual Educational Travel Interim.
  • Concordia identified the Yunnan Education Project in partnership with Concordia Welfare Education Foundation as Concordia’s flagship service project.
  • Shanghai’s first purpose built energy saving international school facility including a geo-thermal ground source heat-exchange system, three green roofs, one doubling as a science observatory, an energy-saving emphasis on natural lighting, interior bamboo veneers—a renewable resource; and a unique exterior green wall of vertical landscaping.
  • Resulting Carbon Emission Reduction for school facility: “Annual carbon mitigation resulting from the use of clean ground energy from Concordia’s project is estimated to be 1,500-2,000 metric tons (1,653-2,204 short tons) of CO2 annually.   • Providing students the opportunity to participate in two staples of North American High School sports, Concordia created the first varsity athletic cheerleading squad in Shanghai in 2008 as well as a PEP band that keeps the sporting atmosphere pumped throughout the whole evening. Both join the celebration on Phoenix Friday Nights at the gym and provide a flavor of North American sports home games for everyone in attendance, from young to old.
  • National History Day comes alive in Asia through a fantastic display of curricular and co-curricular integration as hundreds of students present their work in categories of Essay, Speech, Website Creation, Documentary Films and Dramatic Presentation. The only offering of NHD in Asia was inaugurated at Concordia in 2009 with students participating from three Shanghai international schools. At the third annual Shanghai History Day, Concordia hosted students participating from more than 35 international schools from around the globe.
  • Concordia’s Elementary school adopted Reading and Writing Workshop and became the first Teachers College of Columbia University Affiliate School in China in 2010.
  • Concordia has had a G7-G12 one-to-one laptop program from the day its doors were opened in 1998.
  • In lower grades, students enjoy a 2:1 ratio of computers to explore all that technology offers to classroom instruction.
  • Since its inception, Concordia has integrated technology into classroom instruction across all disciplines and grades.
  • In 2010, Concordia opened Shanghai’s first state-of-the-art international school video production studio.
  • Concordia became the first Apple Regional Training Center in Mainland China in 2010 with 8th Grade Humanities faculty member the first Apple Professional Developer in China.
